Atlantic Hotel Weddings: meet the wedding planners.

22 May 2015

You’ve pictured a coastal wedding all your life, there are crashing waves, whistling winds and a luxury venue you thought only existed in dreams.

We caught up with Abbey Stones and Lucy Angell, The Atlantic Hotel’s wedding and events team to learn how to make your big day exactly how you picture it…

The Atlantic Hotel has been hosting luxury weddings for 40 years, how does it feel to be planning events in such a prestigious venue?

A:  It feels absolutely brilliant, I love my work and it’s always worthwhile when you see a bride and groom having the time of their lives!

L: Seeing how everything comes together behind the scenes is a constant inspiration to me, making an event ‘just so’ leaves everyone with the biggest smile on their face!

What is the first piece of advice you give to brides planning their own wedding?

A: Do what you want to do and what makes you happy, not what you think everyone else would like or expect. If you enjoy your day everyone else will.

L: Make sure you do what makes you and your partner happy, at the end of the day your wedding is a reflection of your relationship and commitment to each other and nobody else’s. Stay true to want you want!

Have you any tips for choosing a theme?

A: Always bear in mind your surroundings for example location and decor of venue. We’re completely open to themes at the Atlantic Hotel, and we’re in a perfect location for those wishing for a dramatic, dreamy ceremony by the sea!

L: I think there are two paths you can take for a themed wedding; go all out or keep it simple. A comprehensive theme takes a lot of dedication, so please bear in mind time and finance allowances!

Are there any hard and fast rules to make it as stress free as possible?

A: Lean on us, as wedding coordinators are here to make everything as stress free as possible. We always advise or aid in any way possible.

L: Communication, communication, communication! The more everyone knows the easier it will be. Here at The Atlantic Hotel we offer a complimentary management service where we make it as stress free for the bride and groom as possible.

We encourage face-to-face meetings and catch ups throughout the planning so couples can really relax and enjoy their day knowing we have it all in hand!

Are there dates by which brides should definitely have certain things completed?

A: I wouldn’t say that anything needs to be completed by such and such a date. We have organised weddings from two years ahead to starting three months from the big day, and both were just as beautiful and individual.

L: Everyone has a different timescale to play with, so I’d say be realistic, be relaxed and give yourself plenty of time.

For example, a dress fitting a week before your wedding during prom season (June/July) is asking for trouble because you’ll be hard pushed to get it back in time. Quite simply, the sooner everything is in place the sooner you can put your feet up and enjoy this special time in your life.

The Atlantic Hotel’s in such a stunning location, how do you advise incorporating this?

A: We always encourage our couple to use the landscape and location into their theme or colour scheme, however the views here speak for themselves and regardless of both our function rooms are always looking beautiful.

L: I think one of the big draws to The Atlantic Hotel are the breath-taking views from our beautiful rooms that we offer. What is lovely is that we encourage our couples to take full advantage of all of our rooms so that they can take in all the different views we have. Weather permitting we would always suggest that our lawn area is the perfect setting within the hotel for arrival drinks and pictures.
