Here at the Atlantic Hotel Newquay, we’re offering our Silks Bistro lunch guests the chance to make the most of the summer weather in August and September with a swim in our outdoor pool that has spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean.
We also have an outdoor Jacuzzi ready for you to relax in while you take in the scenery and enjoy a little self-indulgence.
To that end, we thought we’d highlight some of the benefits a swimming session can have on your health.
1) A Work Out without the Stress
Swimming is a great form of aerobic exercise that allows you to work out the whole of your body without impacting your skeletal system. When your body enters the water it becomes lighter, so much so that if you submerge yourself up to your neck, you only weigh 10% of what you would out of the water. The pool is a great place to exercise stiff or sore joints and muscles, so if you’ve had a few aches recently, join us for a nice indulgent lunch before swimming off your pains.
2) Swim for a Stronger Heart
Swimming is a great way of strengthening your most important muscle, the heart. It helps it to increase in size as well as becoming more efficient at pumping blood, which will help enhance the overall blood flow throughout the body. There are even some studies that suggest a 30-minute swim a day can help to reduce coronary heart disease in women by around 30-40%.
3) Ease Asthma with a Swim
For anyone that suffers from asthma, swimming can be a great way of helping to reduce exercise-induced symptoms. The moist air surrounding the pool creates a much easier environment to breathe in. Swimming can help to increase lung volume as well as it helps with developing proper breathing techniques.
4) Lower your Risk of Diabetes
There’s also the chance that swimming can ward off diabetes. There are many studies that suggest three sessions of 30 minutes of breaststroke swimming each week could help to burn around 900 calories and reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes by over 10%.
5) Feel Happy and Relaxed after a Pool Session
Swimming also releases endorphins, the feel-good chemical. In addition, there’s also the natural relaxation response brought on by swimming which has a similar effect as yoga on the body.
If our five suggestions aren’t enough to inspire a swim, our lunch menu should be. Whether you fancy a lavish light bite or sandwich, or a dish from our A la Carte menu, we’re ready to welcome you for an enjoyable afternoon here at the Atlantic Hotel.
