We’re super excited about Lowender Peran in a few weeks time! From 2nd-6th November it promises to be the most exciting 5 day festival full of dancing, art, family fun and over 300 artists, hosted at the Atlantic.
Here are the 5 things we’re most looking forward to for the 38th Lowender Peran:
Singing Session on Wednesday 2nd November
We’re super excited about the sing along happening in the Atlantic Bar on the Wednesday! It’s an informal welcome session with Newquay Rowing Club Singers and the Perraners and it’s free entry! We’ll be on hand to provide a bit of Dutch courage!
Ceili Dancing on Thursday 3rd November
On the Thursday join us in the Atlantic Ballroom for a traditional Ceili with the North Cornwall Ceili Band – if you’ve never danced one before it doesn’t matter. The experts will be on hand to show you how it’s done!
Street Dancing and Parade on Saturday 5th November
Thanks to support from the fully trained volunteers at Newquay Lions, the Lowender Peran Parade is back! Gathering on the green at the corner of Beach Road at 12.15pm (below the Walkabout) the parade will move through the town centre, finishing on the Killacourt Green. Following the parade there will be a #HFC Youth Dance Performance which will be pretty spectacular as there will be around 50 dancers and it’s completely free to attend. Then from 12.45pm it’s the Killacourt Ceili which is bound to get you into the Lowender spirit!
Family Activities on Saturday 5th November
Various family activities will be available including crafts, storytelling, face painting, music and dance at the Atlantic. Available from 12.30-4.30, there will be a chill out area with activity packs and colouring in for kids along with family storytelling with Mazed Tales.
Closing Concert on Sunday 6th November
The Closing Concert takes place in our glamorous ballroom at 7.30pm with renowned Looe-based band The Changing Room. Rootsy, Celtic-infused, original folk music heavily influenced by the industrial heritage of Cornwall. The songs feature rousing choruses and catchy hooks that will keep you swaying and humming all well. Accordion, guitar, bodhran, harp and banjo plus award winning vocals deliver a winning combination and unique sound. The Changing Room have featured on BBC Radio 2, BBC Radio 3 and The Telegraph. It promises to be an outstanding end to a fantastic 5 days!
These are our 5 favourites for the Lowender Peran but there’s so much more that we love! From singing and street dancing to an art and vintage fair, music sessions and dance workshops, there truly is something for everyone!
