THE ATLANTIC HOTEL HISTORY

The hotel has always been an integral part of the Newquay community since 1892. After encountering the incredible plot, the Atlantic Hotel’s founders set about designing a luxurious hotel that would match the breathtaking location, where every single room could marvel at the sweeping views of the Atlantic. The hotel quickly built a reputation for opulence and luxury.

Built in 1892, the hotel stands as a perfect blend of beautifully classic interiors and contemporary opulence. Perched on the picturesque Cornish cliffs, surrounded by ocean views, the Atlantic is ideal for wedding ceremonies, breakfasts and receptions for up to 500 guests.

Harrods of London were famously brought in to design and furnish the cocktail lounge in 1935 ensuring that guests were able to relax in the most stylish, chic surroundings. The current owners have worked hard to preserve these grand, historic features while offering modern luxury.

Beatlemania

The Atlantic Hotel played host to The Beatles for 3 nights during the filming of The Magical Mystery Tour, in September 1967. Their stay was part of the iconic Magical Mystery Tour movie, based on a mystery tour around Britain.

Thousands of people rushed to the hotel and the Atlantic was hit by “Beatlemania” with fans desperate for a glimpse of their idols. A very lucky few holidaymakers and locals even got a chance to star in the movie, with several locations in and around the hotel featuring in the movie.

Today, when you stay at the Atlantic Hotel, you can say you have shared footsteps with music legends around the hotel

Independent, and family-owned

We are proud to be one of few family-owned and independent hotels in Cornwall. This distinction is evident through our commitment to delivering unique and personalised hospitality to each of our guests. From our family, to yours.

In 1986 the current owners, the Cobley family took over the hotel and began a sympathetic refurbishment to update the hotel, eager to maintain the grandeur and history of this beautiful Victorian building whilst fusing a few modern additions to the hotel. Most importantly, our resolve to ensure our guests receive a personal and unique experience has never wavered.

So when you are next in the area, do come and see us, walk in the footsteps of the Beatles and discover the magic within our grand walls.
