Over the next couple of months, we’ll be talking about some of our favourite things to do in Cornwall in the festive season. Cornwall’s only city, Truro, has a festival to start the late night shopping season in style, an event that is a popular favourite amongst locals and visitors alike. The City of Lights festival sees children, artists, and local community groups take to the cobbles of Truro with lanterns of withy and tissue in hand.
Most of the children have smaller lanterns that fill the cobbles with a warm glow, while the adults make larger constructions that tower impressively over the crowds. There are other forms of entertainment at the festival such as music and dancers in elaborate costumes.
This year the procession route has had to expand; with the event attracting roughly 25,000 people each year the streets can become very busy with everybody craning to see. Therefore, the longer route should make it much easier for everyone to enjoy.
If you’re interested in visiting the city of lights this year, come and stay with us in November when the festival takes place. The Atlantic Hotel is only a 25 minute drive from the bustling city of Truro, and we’ll be happy to welcome you back after a night watching the lanterns with a toasty fire and a warm greeting. Furthermore, if you stay with us in November, we’ll even upgrade your room as an early Christmas present from us, for free! Call: 01637 872244 to find out more.
